Upgrading Sucks
After signing up for an AMAZING deal from Dream Host I’ve spent most of the rest of the evening moving stuff from my old hosting to the new. Along the way I decided to give one of the latest WordPress nightly builds a shot. I really like the new admin interface, it’s been cleaned up a ton. The new default theme is pretty cool as well, and the method for installing and choosing themes is lightyears beyond what they had before.
So why do I say upgrading sucks? Because when I did my old custom theme totally freaked out WordPress and I had to install from scratch. Pulling old posts out of an SQL dump is no fun at all, so I think I shall be starting anew on this blog. I imported one old post before this one, but didn’t have the heart or the patience to get the rest.
As for actual work-related news, today’s Kulshan meeting accomplished some stuff when it wasn’t swerving off on inane tangents. The one really cool thing that came from it was a general consensus and hashing out of the “Quarantine Lite” idea that has been floating around since summer. Tomorrow I’m going to being hacking out the actual technical backend stuff for it and I’ve got a good feeling that I can get it done very quickly.
Mike tried to teach me how to branch in CVS today. It was bad. We got it working eventually but it really wasn’t pretty. It’d be nice if our version control was a little easier to use, but CVS is the standard so I guess we’ll stick with it. Besides, having to import CVS data into something new seems like it’d be a pain.
