Finals are fun
Man I hate Finals. They keep me from getting more interesting work done.
While putting off studying for Unix I was able to get Security Check to actually quarantine all the people listed within the groups of a Checkpoint. That was neat. Granted, it was fake quarantining on Alvis, but that’s still a big step that was missing beforehand. Just a few more things to do there and I can wrap up that project. It seems like I get called on to create a lot of the brand-new stuff we have at ResTek. I’m totally cool with that, I love designing these things with Nick or Mike or Sitzmar. It’s also allowed my coding style to clean itself up a lot and become much more efficient, since I’m constantly re-evaluating the way I did certain things before in an attempt to improve upon it.
Spring Break should be great fun, I have absolutely nothing planned. So instead, I’m going to continue hacking away on a C# and WinForms version of Tomboy. Thanks to it’s open-source nature (as well as being written in C#) I was able to port over several of the classes employed really easily. That means that if I ever release my version, it’ll have complete file compatibility with Tomboy. Not a huge deal for me (currently lacking any boxes not running XP), but a it also saved me from having to decide on a file structure. Tomboy’s files are really easy to read, it’s just a clean XML format.
So far I’ve got some of the major features done:
- Hidden Main Form, only shows tray icon and it’s context menu
- Child forms launchable from main form systray context menu
- Saving notes to Tomboy XML format
I definitely have more work ahead of me, but for what I need (simple note-taking, basic wiki functionality) I think this’ll work out nicely. I don’t spellchecking and all the other bells and whistles that Tomboy is now incorporating. And hell, since I’m writing it I guess I get to pick what is included.
